12ozProphet x Futura Collaboration

World famous for his unique script and abstract-modernist painting style, Futura has been an innovator of graffiti culture from the very beginning. A longtime friend of 12ozProphet, Futura is considered a legend of the graffiti community having pioneered an abstractionist style of graffiti that has very successfully migrated off the sides of trains onto to the walls of some of the most prestigious galleries around the world. Futura was among the first street artists to make waves in the early 1980’s downtown New York City scene, mingling with the likes of Madonna and Debbie Harry early on in their careers. It was during this same period that Futura began designing album covers for the Clash and touring with them; doing live paintings on stage, spreading the popularity of graffiti and planting seeds for movement at every show along the way. Futura continues to be a significant presence in the creative community, regularly showing in galleries and museums, as well as working with some of the most desirable products and exclusive brands globally.

With the 12ozProphet x Futura collaboration, we looked to capture the stark elegance of Futura’s style. The hand styles, design and artwork are classic Futura, while the superior quality and craftsmanship is indicative of 12ozProphet’s history of striving to set standards. Together we developed, produced and promoted a concept that appeals to the core of our community – the graffiti writers – while also resonating as loudly with the artists, designers and creatives on the peripheral. The short promotional video we produced features a quintessential Futura as he effortlessly crafts ‘12ozProphet’ and its various iterations in his trademark script. The outcome was a really cool body of custom content and a beautiful capsule collection of products that captured the passion and energy that can result in a collaboration between friends.
