12ozProphet x Nike – Also Known As Air Force 1

Created by Bruce Kilgore and named after the original Air Force One, Nike’s Air Force 1 has been defining street and sport culture for over 30 years. It became an icon because it was groundbreaking and fresh. The Air Force 1 love started with basketball players and wound its way through Hip Hop culture to high fashion. From Nelly’s ode to the shoe that reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks chart in 2002 to Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci’s remix of the Air Force 1 in 2014, the AF1 achieved what is most coveted, adapting and transcending, maintaining a cult following over decades.
The 12ozProphet and Nike AKA Air Force 1 collaboration was inspired by some of the innovative work we were doing for the Also Known As book. Realizing the potential and scope of the project, Nike gave us the opportunity to design a custom sneaker to be released as part of the books official launch. Working closely with Tom Luedecke of Tinker Hatfield’s legendary ‘Nike Innovation Kitchen’ in Beaverton, 12ozProphet recontextualized the tags created for the books’s cover art by Crude Oiler; a close friend of 12ozProphet and graffiti royalty. The result was a limited run of gold covered Also Known As books, specially packed within a custom shoe box that we redesigned to match the books special cover. Ultimately, 48 pairs were seeded to key cultural influencers and creatives along with a small group of 12ozProphet and Nike staff members. Along with the 12ozProphet Nike Wet Look Dunks, our Nike AF1’s remain amongst the most expensive and sought after Nike’s in sneaker culture.
